Simply enter your exam date, and RemNote will keep you on track to ace your exam.

Daily Goals for Exams

After you set an exam date, a new exam section appears in your Daily Goal. Hit your Daily Goal each day to stay on track. Don't worry if you miss a day or add new content: the scheduler will automatically keep you on track, and prompt you with suggestions if you fall too far behind.

Your daily goal for each exam is intelligently computed from the practice you have coming up this week, the total practice remaining before your exam, and more. The scheduler keeps you on track in every study situation.

Exam Warnings & Catch-Up Periods

If you fall behind, a warning appears on your flashcards page along with a suggested adjustment to your daily goal.

If there's still time before your exam, RemNote may suggest a Catch-Up Period: a window of a few days or weeks where your daily goal is temporarily increased to get you back on track.

Warnings can appear when you miss practice days, add new cards, or get many questions wrong. In each case, you'll see clear guidance on how to recover. Accept the suggested adjustment with one click, or make your own catch-up plan.

Exams in Folders & the New Exam Page

Add an exam to a folder, and a new Exams tab appears:

Open any exam to view its new exam page, where you can see:

• Exam Progress: See an estimate of how much of the total practice for this exam you've completed, based on your past reviews and the estimated reviews remaining before your exam date.

• Exam Content: Select which folders and documents are included in your exam.

• Weekly Study Plan: See how many cards you'll need to learn each week, right up to exam day.

New Configuration Options

We've redesigned the exam setup flow to make it clearer, and added new options to customize:

• Prioritized Practice Days: Choose the days you prefer to do most of your practicing. (If a card risks being forgotten, or a backlog builds up, the scheduler may still ask you to practice a smaller amount on other days.)

• Final Review Period: Bring every card back for one final review before your exam date. (Recommended)

• Mastery Guarantee: Have the scheduler guarantee you get each card right twice in a row before exam day. Cards you get wrong are pulled forward for extra practice. (Recommended)

Cards to Learn

Cards you’ve imported or generated with AI (as opposed to ones you’ve typed yourself) are no longer immediately scheduled as due. Instead, they appear in a new Cards to Learn section in your daily goal and weekly schedule. This gives you control over which content you learn at which time, while keeping you on track for your exam.

Multiple-Choice Learn Mode

When learning new flashcards, you can now choose between Cards and the new Multiple-Choice Mode, which turns each question into a multiple-choice card, scaffolding your understanding while you're first learning the material. Subsequent reviews of the card will be presented open-ended as usual.

Learning Warnings

If you fall behind on learning new content, or add more content to learn, you'll see a warning with options to adjust your learning schedule.

🎯 New Daily Goals & Streak Goals

Streak Goals

We've split daily goals into two separate goals: your existing daily goal, and a new streak goal. Your streak goal can either be fixed at ten cards a day, or match your daily goal as before.

Inspired by research on how effective habits are formed and maintained, the new streak goal defaults to ten cards a day, an amount that always feels achievable and gets you into the queue. Build a habit of consistent daily practice and extend your streak as far as you can. Once you've hit your streak goal, keep practicing until you reach your full daily goal when you can.

Configure both in the new Goals & Streaks section in settings.

On the Statistics page, you can now see the total number of days you've hit your daily goal. Try to make it as many as possible!

New Streak Goal Tooltips

We've revamped and simplified the in-queue tooltip to make your progress toward your streak and daily goal clearer.

"Forgot" No Longer Counts Toward Goals

To simplify the daily goal progress bars, pressing Forgot on a card no longer awards progress toward your streak or daily goal. Your daily goal is now simply the number of cards you need to get right today.

A Dedicated Daily Goal for Currently Studying

Marking documents or folders as Currently Studying (previously called Active) tells RemNote: "These are the classes I'm taking right now. Help me stay on top of them."

Your daily goal for Currently Studying cards can be set to one of three modes:

• Spread over the week (default): Splits the week's Currently Studying cards into even daily portions.

• All due, every day: Your goal includes every Currently Studying card due that day. The most thorough option, best when preparing for a test.

• Fit within your daily target: Currently Studying cards count inside your daily target instead of adding extra on top, keeping your total workload fixed.

Once you add your first Currently Studying folder, a new subsection appears in your daily goal progress bar, and practicing those cards counts toward it.

Streak Freezes

For days when you just can't find time to practice, we've added Streak Freezes. Every 6 days of hitting your streak goal earns you a Streak Freeze, and if you miss a day, one is applied automatically to protect your streak. You can bank up to 2 Streak Freezes.

🗂️ New Flashcard Home

We've simplified the Flashcard Home and given it a fresh new look.

Hover over any day in your practice history graph to see how many cards you practiced, your goals for that day, and the number of cards practiced on each device.

All the statistics present in the old Flashcard Home (mastery progress bars, total card counts, and more) are still available on the Stats tab.

📂 New Folder UI

We've cleaned up the folder UI with a simpler look:

You can find the other options that used to have buttons at the top of the folder under the + button to the right of “Upload PDF”.

⚙️ Under the Hood

This release also includes major internal upgrades focused on reliability and sync:

• The streak and daily goal tracking system has been completely rebuilt, eliminating the last rare syncing inconsistencies. Streaks and daily goals are now tracked per knowledge base.

• Internal document data has been moved to a simpler, more robust storage system. This happens via a one-time automatic migration when you first open 1.27.

• The document sidebar has been rebuilt for better performance and reliability.

The RemNote 1.27 beta is here! We’re pre-releasing this update on the beta channel, as it includes major internal upgrades to the syncing system.

Once you update, you won’t be able to downgrade to earlier versions. Thus, you’ll see an opt-in screen on the beta channel. If you don’t want to upgrade yet, you can switch to the main production channel instead.

Pressing Forgot on a card no longer awards progress toward your streak or daily goal. Your daily goal is now simply the number of cards you need to get right today.

A Dedicated Daily Goal for Currently Studying

Marking a document or folder as Currently Studying (previously called Active) tells RemNote: "These are the classes I'm taking right now. Help me stay on top of them and clear my due cards each week."

Your daily goal for Currently Studying cards can be set to one of three modes:

• Spread over the week (default): Splits the week's Currently Studying cards into even daily portions.

• All due, every day: Your goal includes every Currently Studying card due that day. The most thorough option, best when preparing for a test.

• Fit within your daily target: Currently Studying cards count inside your daily target instead of adding extra on top, keeping your total workload fixed.

Once you add your first Currently Studying folder, a new subsection appears in your daily goal progress bar, and practicing those cards counts toward it.

Streak Freezes

For days when you just can't find time to practice, we've added Streak Freezes. Every 6 days of hitting your streak goal earns you a Streak Freeze, and if you miss a day, one is applied automatically to protect your streak. Days with no cards due are automatically frozen too, and they'll never break your streak.

We've significantly simplified the flashcard home and given it a fresh new look.

Hover over any day in your practice history graph to see how many cards you practiced, your goals for that day, and even the number of cards practiced on each device.

All statistics from the previous flashcard home (mastery progress bars, total card counts, and more) are still available on the Statistics page.

Create an Infinite Canvas by clicking Create on the sidebar, then Infinite Canvas.

Infinite Canvases support multiple formats for mind maps and knowledge organization: tree mind maps, shape mind maps, and sketched mind maps.

🌲 1) Tree Mind Maps

Tree Mind Maps are our most structured form of mind map. They help you organize knowledge into a hierarchical tree of ideas, which are then automatically laid out on your canvas.

Select the “Mind Map” button on the toolbar, then click anywhere on your canvas to add.

⬛️ 2) Shape Mind Maps

Shape Mind Maps provide more flexibility with layout, which still letting you make structured connections between ideas.

First, click anywhere to add a shape. Then, hover over the edges of any shape or document to see the new connector + button. Click and drag this button to make connections between two shapes. 

Double click on any shape to add shape text, or double click on any arrow to add arrow text.

Sketched Mind Maps are the most flexible kind of mind map. Sketch with your pen, then organize ideas with groups, shapes, and arrows.

Since 1.22, we’ve made 927 unique improvements and fixes. Really! These improvements span every area of the app: the editor, flashcards, syncing, performance, handwritten notes, ai tools, etc. We won’t stop until every corner of RemNote feels instant, powerful, and joyful to use.

Normally, we use major updates to highlight new features, which can sometimes steal the spotlight from our polish work. Behind the scenes, the significant majority of our engineering effort has always gone and continues to go towards polishing every corner of the app. RemNote is packed with powerful features, and we’re always working to polish them further. With this update, we wanted to provide visibility into where we’ve been focused and exclusively highlight the polish we’ve been working on.

Fast Mobile Flashcards

The flashcard home now loads instantly on mobile. Immediately jump into flashcards for any folder or document, without delay.

Our goal is to make everything in RemNote load “instantly” in less than a few hundred milliseconds. RemNote works completely offline, and is architected with performance and stability at its core. Everything can be fetched from your local database in milliseconds. We’re continuing to work through every page of the mobile app to get it all “instant”.

Note - The first time you open your app in 1.23, it might take a few seconds to get the new system ready.

Faster Mobile Syncing & Performance Improvements

We’ve made significant improvements to the whole mobile experience:

• Syncing when opening the app is now ~2x-~3x faster, depending on your device

• Overall memory usage has been reduced by ~40% across the entire app.

• Loading of the editor on larger knowledge bases is also ~35% faster.

These improvements are most noticeable on mobile, but they apply to web and desktop as well.

We’ve also added a new sync indicator at the top of the homepage, flashcards page and notes page, to give you visibility into if you’re fully synced or not.

AI Tools

New AI Card Generation

We’ve built a new, cleaner AI Card Generation UI:

The new system:

• Uses less AI credits, but gives higher quality cards.

• Lets you easily see the number of credits any run will use.

• Stores citations for every card and shows them in the “Insights” sections on your cards.

• Is designed to be polished and easier to use.

The new AI Card Generator is also powered by a new backend. In our testing, the new backend gives higher-quality cards overall, and is also more reliable.

• Eraser Filter Options: You can now customize what kind of items on your document are erased. Perfect for when drawing on top of images, and more:

Ctrl+F Upgrades

We’ve upgraded Ctrl+F search:

• If text matches in any collapsed descendants, you’ll now see a warning:

  

• The “matching text” color coding is now nicer.

• Words with accents are now matches, independent of accents.

• Editing text with Ctrl+F highlights now works smoothly.

• The popup now always appears within the pane you’re searching in, for clarity.

• If multiple matches exist within a single bullet, you can step through each of them separately.

• Ctrl+F now works like normal browser search and no longer applies unexpected fuzzy-matching.
