Automated Citation, Referencing, and White Paper Structuring with LLM

What?

The feature aims to incorporate citation and referencing directly from PDFs and notes. Leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs), the system would automatically generate citations and references, not just for the source material but also for the specific location within the document where the note was made. Additionally, the LLM could assist in structuring a white paper by summarizing and creating a coherent narrative from the notes. Plugin support for bibliography.com, scite.ai, or consensus.app could be integrated for enhanced functionality.

Examples:

  • User uploads a PDF and makes notes. LLM automatically cites the source and the specific page or paragraph where the note was made.

  • User wants to write a white paper on a research topic. LLM scans through all notes, organizes them coherently, and generates a draft structure for the white paper.

Why?

This feature is crucial for researchers, students, and professionals who deal with a lot of source material and need an efficient way to manage citations and references. It also streamlines the process of creating research papers or white papers, saving time and ensuring academic integrity.

Inspiration?

Some elements of this idea have been implemented in AI apps like Reword.app and Jenni.ai. These platforms offer automated referencing, citation, and web searching functionalities for research papers. However, they lack the robust note-taking and tagging features that RemNote offers. Combining these functionalities with LLMs for a seamless user experience would be a novel approach.
