Avoid spoilers in flashcards by allowing to selectively hide breadcrumbs in queue

Sometimes when recalling flashcard, there are pieces of information visible on the screen that give hints and spoil the recall. Oftentimes, this is the name of the parent rem used to categorize information in the document. It can also also some part of the text, especially in reverse (←) flashcards.

For example:

World War II (heading used for document organization)

Some battle - definition

war → World War II (descriptor being recalled)

In this case, the flashcard view would show something like below. The answer “World War II” is reveled in the heading name and spoils the practice.

World War II

Some battle

war → ?

While it’s possible to organize documents differently to avoid spoilers, it can be awkward and often leads to suboptimal document organization.

Ideally, there would be a way to mark a specific heading as a spoiler.

Another example:

Alan Turing ←→ English mathematician, computer scientist, known for formalizing the concepts of algorithm and computation with the Turing machine

In this case, trying to recall the name of the scientist by the definition, immediacy reveals his name because of the mention of the “Turing machine”:

? ← English mathematician, computer scientist, known for formalizing the concepts of algorithm and computation with the Turing machine

Here it’s also possible to write the definition in a way that avoid spoilers. However, the mention of “Turing machine” is completely natural when trying to recall the definition of “Alan Turing” (→ direction). It also looks better when just browsing the document.

Ideally, there would be a way to mark a specific word in the definition as a spoiler so it would be hidden when trying to recall a concept name by its definition.
