Better REMs architecture: "about" vs "in"

I don’t understand why things about rems and things in rems are treated indistinguishably in the editor: they get in the way of one another.

Stuff about rems: tags, ~aliases, descriptors, powerups, definitions, sources, numbers of references about this rem

Stuff in rems: the rest, meaning any child idea of a parent rem

Why is this a problem? → Rems look like a mess

  • You can’t read tags if there is more than one: below there are 4 tags, (with tag pills enabled in labs)… they are visible only when I hover over them…

  • Aliases get lost in rem when ##automaticsorting is used because it doesn’t know that aliases are special children that shouldn’t appear in the middle of your rem

  • any powerups make the tagging invisible, as there will be automatically more than one (there are 3 tags below..)

  • Descriptors get lost in rems… They are THE “about-type” children.. why should they appear anywhere in the rem? When I go back in rems, it should make sense to everyone that descriptors should on top! they don’t make sense within the body of the rem. In the example below, it is obvious that using ##automaticallly sort function, as descriptors are thrown away. This gets even worse when using Universal Descriptors as they are launched to the bottom..

  • However, for some reason the PDF source is correctly separated from the rest : stays at the top of the rem → why do this here and not for the rest?

What is at stake (IMO)

  • Clarity of information for a great Knowledge Base Manager: A better looking, more structured and more readable content. Might not seems like much, but after 100s of hours in rem, I can tell you it absolutely matter

Proposed solution

  • Offer the option to group together all descriptors at the top of rems

  • for tags: it is possible to extract them from the main column of the body, and have a separate column to the side collecting all about meta info: tags, source

  • Have better UI, where ##automatically sorting tag, is replaced by a simple “↓” icon, same for all power up rems
