Further Improvement on Multiple Panes

The Introduction of Multiple Windows back in Version 1.5 has proven a fantastic feature and a massive enhancement of how I can now use RemNote.

However, I am not entirely satisfied yet with how the feature works. For instance, to close a pane, I have to use the mouse (instead of the keyboard), hover to the upper right side of the pane and manually close it. Or, I often need to (also with the mouse) rearrange several open panes. I'd like these things to work more intuitively and faster.

Here are a few suggestions:

  • The ability to pin a window so that it does not switch to another view altogether (taking inspiration from Obsidian here); bundled with keyboard-shortcut

  • Shortcuts for: freely switch from one window to the next (and back)

  • Shortcuts for: freely arrange one window - move it to the right, down, up... (Somewhat similar to well... how it works on Windows.)

  • Shortcut for: close a window

  • The ability to save a specific set-up and give it a name. This is useful when you have - for instance - two projects on which you are working simultaneously. (Say, for project A, you need 3 open panes, for project B, only two. As it is now, you have to close one pane, then open the first page for project B, then hover over to the second pane and open the second page for project B. This can be much faster if you have the two set-ups saved beforehand!)

Further improvements I really like to see:

  • Settings: define the order in which new panes are opened. (On my Desktop, the third window will always be opened under the second one. Well... different users have different use cases. For me, it would make more sense to open the third next to the second, not beneath it.)

  • UI: A non-intrusive, visual indicator for the pane I'm on. Comes with the ability to turn this on/off in settings. (I'm often lost and accidentally open a new page in the active window I'd actually like to stay open.)

Things that could be done with plugins, I think. But it could also be nice to have them directly in RemNote:

  • Instead of how the Multiple Windows feature works now, have them scrollable. (You can scroll down from one to the next; every new window gets opened under its predecessor.)

  • ... have them open always to the right of their predecessor (resulting in a horizontally scrollable timeline)

  • Two-Panes-Only-Mode

Best!
