Multiple Choice Distractors from Table Columns
Overview
I would like to suggest an enhancement to RemNote's table feature that would allow items in descriptor columns to serve as multiple-choice distractors for the main entry in the "Name" column. This would build on the existing flashcard generation functionality, providing a more interactive and Quizlet-like learning experience.
Current Functionality
Currently, each entry in the "Name" column of a table can serve as a concept, while other columns provide descriptors or details. Users can control flashcard direction (forward or backward) for active recall. However, there is no option to use descriptor columns as distractors in a multiple-choice format.
Suggested Feature
- Multiple-Choice Mode: Add an option to convert descriptor columns into multiple-choice distractors for the "Name" column. This would allow for a more dynamic learning mode, similar to Quizlet’s "Test" and "Learn" features, where terms can be tested through multiple-choice questions using existing table data.
- Customizable Distractors: Users could manually select which descriptor columns to include as distractors for each concept or let the system auto-generate distractors from available descriptors.
- Adaptive Learning: Similar to Quizlet's "Learn" mode, this feature could track user progress, showing incorrect answers more frequently to reinforce learning.
Benefits
This enhancement would streamline studying and make the learning process more engaging for users, particularly for those who benefit from multiple-choice question formats. It would also allow for more diverse testing styles directly within RemNote, without needing external platforms like Quizlet.
This would make RemNote’s flashcard experience more versatile and enhance study efficiency by combining structured data with interactive learning tools.
Here’s a practical example of how the suggested feature could work:
Table Setup:

Example Flashcard (Multiple Choice) Using Table Data:

Correct answer: A subset of a sample space (2)
In this setup, descriptor columns would act as distractors by pulling definitions from other terms. The system would automatically generate multiple-choice questions, using the correct definition and plausible distractors from other rows in the table.
Benefit: By auto-generating multiple-choice questions using existing table data, RemNote would allow learners to engage with the material more interactively, reinforcing concepts through recognition and comparison, much like Quizlet’s Test or Learn mode.
